Fix a table snip that misses rows or shows an error

Add missing rows and columns, repeat a table over several pages, and fix "No words in the frame", "No table detected" and slow table snips.

When you draw a table snip, Blast Audit detects the rows and columns inside your frame and draws them as dividers on the document. Most missing rows come from that detection, and you can correct it on the snip itself.

Rows or columns are missing or merged

  1. Draw the table snip again, with the frame covering the whole table, header included, and a little margin on each side.
  2. Check the dividers on the document.
  3. To add a column, click the dashed strip above the table where a column boundary is missing.
  4. To add a row, click Edit rows in the snip's toolbar, then click the dashed strip on the left where a row boundary is missing (Add a row here).
  5. To move a divider, drag it. To remove one, double-click it.
  6. To start over, click the reset button (↺) in the toolbar. It detects the rows and columns again.

Tables without lines between rows, or with amounts spread over two lines, are the usual cases where you need to add rows yourself.

The table runs over several pages

A table snip covers one frame on one page. For a statement that continues on the next pages:

  1. Snip the table on the first page and check the rows and columns.
  2. Click the repeat button in the snip's toolbar (Repeat table snip for other pages).
  3. Confirm Duplicate table to the next pages?. Blast Audit applies the same frame to the following pages and writes the results in Excel.

Check each repeated page. If the layout moves from one page to the next, adjust the frame on that page.

This sheet or workbook is protected. Remove the protection in Excel, then try again.Use Review > Unprotect Sheet, or turn off Review > Protect Workbook, then snip again.

One statement fails while the others work

When the same kind of table works on other documents but not on one, the cause is usually that document's text.

  1. On the Documents page, check that the document's OCR Status is Complete.
  2. If the PDF was read from its own text layer, that text can be out of order or incomplete. Click the ⋮ button at the end of the document's row, then Run visual OCR, and snip again.
  3. If the page is a poor scan, rescan it or ask the client for the original PDF.

Table snip is slow

Draw the frame around the table only, not the whole page: a smaller frame has fewer words to sort into rows and columns. If Auto table suggestions is on, Blast Audit also looks for tables on the pages you open. You can turn it off with Auto Table Suggestion on the ribbon or in the viewer's ⋯ menu.

If it still fails

Contact support with:

  • A screenshot of the viewer showing your frame and the detected rows.
  • The message shown, if any.
  • Whether other documents work with the same kind of table.

Do not send the client document unless support asks for it to reproduce the problem.
