Financial Statements Suite

Check financial statements without leaving Excel

The Financial Statements Suite recomputes every total, ties the statements to the notes and to last year’s figures, checks spelling in seven languages and carries your tickmarks to the next draft. The disclosure checklist covers the HGB Anhang or your own IFRS or US GAAP list.

Included in the plan and switched on per organization while we roll it out. Ask us to turn it on for your firm.

Balance sheet — FY25

annual_report_FY25.pdf
p.4

Mathematical accuracy

TEUR
Trade receivables4.215
Other assets1.380
Cash at bank2.940
Current assets8.553 ^

Likely transposition: printed 8.553, expected 8.535 (difference 18, divisible by 9).

Red totals explained

A total that does not add up is flagged, with its likely cause when the suite recognizes one: missing amount, swapped digits, flipped sign, rounding or a doubtful OCR reading.

Notes and prior year tied

Face-statement amounts are found in their note, then anywhere by value. Comparatives are matched with last year’s report.

Drafts without rework

Tickmarks follow an amount to the next draft when it is printed on the same line. Everything else is listed with its reason.

Seven languages

Spelling is checked per paragraph in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Dutch, with accounting terms added.

HGB Anhang checklist

62 statutory points from §§ 264 and 284 to 288 HGB, or your own IFRS or US GAAP checklist, with every answer tied to a passage in the document.

Ready for the file

Annotated PDF with a summary page, Excel findings sheet linked to the PDF, and sign-off once every finding is resolved.

The tests

What the suite checks, and how

Mathematical accuracy, with a diagnosis when the pattern is known

The suite recomputes every total and subtotal of the statements and notes. It finds totals by arithmetic, not by reading row labels, so it works whatever the language of the report. When a printed total does not add up and the difference matches a known pattern, the suite names the likely cause:

  • An amount is missing from the sum, or one amount too many is included.
  • Two digits are swapped: the difference divides by 9.
  • A sign is flipped.
  • The gap is rounding, within the tolerance you set.
  • The OCR reading is doubtful: low confidence or two possible readings.
  • To correct a calculation, click the amounts that make up the sum.

Internal consistency, by note and by value

Each amount on the face statements is looked up in the note it refers to first, then anywhere else in the document by value. It gets one of five statuses: consistent in the note, found elsewhere (with the page), inconsistent, ambiguous, or not found in the note it refers to. Only amounts printed with at least 3 digits are checked: zeros, dashes and shorter figures are skipped, because small numbers match by coincidence. An amount that refers to no note and appears nowhere else gets no status.

Prior period, matched by value

Add last year’s report and the suite pairs this year’s comparatives with last year’s figures by value, without reading column headers. The prior-year document is optional.

A new draft keeps your tickmarks

When the client sends a new version, a tickmark moves to it only if the same amount is printed on the same line. The others are listed with the reason: amount changed, several matching amounts, or no amount under the tickmark. A version compare procedure shows what changed between drafts.

Spelling in seven languages, detected per paragraph

The language of each paragraph is detected on its own: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish or Dutch, with Austrian, Swiss, British and American variants. Short paragraphs follow the language of their page. Accounting word lists with HGB and IFRS terms keep false alarms down.

  • The check runs in the add-in. Dictionaries load only for the languages the document contains.

Find All Sums

In the document viewer, Find All Sums detects printed totals, turns each one into a Sum Snip and exports the list to Excel with the page, the total and its parts.

Tickmarks in one click

Each test has its tickmark: ^ and < for mathematical accuracy, IC for internal consistency, PY for the prior period, blue when correct and red when not. Mark or flag an item in one click, or apply every suggested correct tickmark to a page or to the whole document.

  • Add up to twelve tickmarks of your own next to your organization’s.
  • A red tickmark gets a comment written from its diagnosis, which you can edit.

Suggestions, findings and sign-off

Items start as suggestions. A red tickmark turns an item into a finding. Findings are accepted, rejected or marked for review, and a procedure can be signed off only once every open finding is resolved.

Exports for the audit file

Export an annotated PDF with every tickmark or with findings only, a cover page with the counts per test and the tickmark legend, and comments as PDF notes. The Excel findings sheet links each amount to its place in the PDF.

Disclosure checklist: HGB Anhang built in, IFRS and US GAAP from your list

The HGB Anhang checklist ships with the product: 62 points derived from the text of §§ 264 and 284 to 288 HGB, each citing its paragraph, plus two size-class questions under § 267 HGB that hide what § 288 HGB exempts. For IFRS or US GAAP, upload your firm’s checklist as CSV, Excel or JSON.

  • An AI model reads the statements and proposes an answer for each point, with the passage it relied on. Blast Audit then looks for that passage in the document: a point whose evidence cannot be found stays unverified and cannot be accepted.
  • You accept, reject or answer yourself. Each decision carries your name and the date.
  • Scope out points before the run. Follow-up questions open from your answers.
  • Export a PDF audit trail or an Excel workpaper. The checklist review uses AI credits; the other checks on this page do not.
How it works

From the PDF to the audit file in three steps

01

Import the statements

Open the Financial Statements Suite from the task pane and choose this year’s PDF, plus last year’s if you have it.

02

Work through the tests

Blue for consistent, red when not, with a diagnosis when the difference matches a known pattern. Mark, flag or correct each item in one click.

03

Export and sign off

Export the annotated PDF and the findings sheet, then sign off the procedure.

Questions before you start

Is the Financial Statements Suite in my plan?
Yes, it is part of the single Blast Audit plan. We are switching it on organization by organization. Ask us and we turn it on for your firm.
Which documents can it read?
PDF annual reports and financial statements, including scans once OCR has run. The number format is read per document, 1.234,56 or 1,234.56, as are scale units such as TEUR, T€, kEUR, Mio. and Mrd.
Are my financial statements sent to an AI model?
The accuracy, consistency, prior-period and spelling checks run in the add-in, on the text recognized at import. The disclosure checklist review sends the document text to an AI model for the length of the run. Azure OpenAI does not store the request unless its abuse monitoring flags it; Microsoft may then keep it in the EU for review. Your checklist answers are saved in the workbook.
Where does the review happen?
Inside Excel. The suite opens in a Blast Audit window from the task pane, and the findings sheet and workpapers are written to your workbook.
