Supported file formats

Which files Blast Audit imports and how each is converted to PDF: .msg and .eml with attachments, XML as raw text, ZIP archives, and size limits.

Blast Audit imports PDF, Word, Excel, images, emails and ZIP archives. Every file that is not already a PDF is converted to PDF on import, so the viewer, snips and matching work the same way on all of them.

Accepted formats

KindExtensions
PDF.pdf
Images.jpg, .jpeg, .jfif, .png, .bmp, .tif, .tiff, .emf
Word and text.doc, .docx, .docm, .odt, .rtf, .txt

Not accepted

PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx), .heic photos from iPhones, .webp and .gif images are refused with "Unsupported file type. Choose a supported document format." Convert them first: save PowerPoint files as PDF (File > Save As > PDF) and export photos as JPEG or PNG.

How each format is converted

FormatWhat you get
PDFKept as it is.
ImagesConverted to PDF.
Word, OpenDocumentConverted to PDF with the document's layout.
Excel, CSVEach sheet is printed to PDF pages.
Text and RTFPlain text on pages. RTF formatting is not kept.
XMLThe raw XML text, in a fixed-width font. Electronic invoices in XML (UBL or CII files, for example) are not laid out as an invoice: ask for the PDF version when you need the readable invoice.
HTMLThe page as a PDF. Scripts and remote content such as images loaded from the web are removed.
XPSConverted to PDF.

Characters that the text conversion cannot draw are replaced with "?".

Emails (.eml and .msg)

An email becomes one PDF: a first page with the subject, sender, recipients and date, then the body, then each supported attachment converted and added after the body. Attachments that cannot be converted, such as PowerPoint files, are left out. Import those separately in a supported format.

If an Outlook .msg file cannot be read, Blast Audit shows "Unable to process Outlook .msg. Save as .eml or PDF and try again." In Outlook, open the email and save it as .eml or print it to PDF, then import that file.

ZIP archives

Every convertible file in the archive is merged into one PDF. Files that cannot be converted are skipped. An archive with nothing convertible is refused ("Zip: no convertible files found."). To keep files as separate documents, unzip the archive and import the files, or use Import folder.

Password-protected files

For a password-protected PDF, Blast Audit asks for the password when you import it. You have three attempts.

A password-protected Word or Excel file cannot be imported: Blast Audit refuses it with "Password-protected Office files are not supported." Remove the password in Word or Excel first, save the file, then import it.
